Another Shock in December

Derod and I received a phone call early this morning to inform us that my grandmother has passed on. Derod was the one who heard the information first hand, and he had to relate it to me about 4 to 5 times before I truly understood the content. It came as such a shocker; no one anticipated my grandmother's departure.

She was relatively healthy, only hindered with the usual bouts of immobility that people get when they age. The thing that caught me most off guard was that I was just speaking with her yesterday night. I had called her to thank her for buying some clothes and a towel for baby. She had even volunteered to sew pillow and bolster cases for baby, and a little "rice bag", to put over his new born tummy when he sleeps. All arrangements were made and I was to look forward to her gifts soon. I had even taught her how to use the footsoak salts which we gave her for Christmas. Then, she had died peacefully in her sleep after that.

This is the second funeral in the span of one month for us; two grandparents departed. I had not expected that my grandmother will not get to see her second great-grandson. She was still so delighted that this one will share her surname and her dialect. Alas, it is not meant to be, and God has His timing all in His hands.

We will bid her farewell on New Year's day... 2006 has been a year where all my (paternal and maternal) remaining grandparents left...
